As if trapped in time, Marsaxlokk is Malta's prettiest fishing village and is the feature of many paintings and postcards from the islands. The buildings are old fashioned, and the sea is full of luzzus, the old style Maltese fishing boats that make this a picturesque bay. A walk along the promenade in the early evening is a delight and is a quiet haven from the busy market time where locals sell fresh fruit and vegetables as well as other typical Maltese crafts. On the Sunday, local fishermen gather to sell fish to locals and tourists. Most visitors to Marsaxlokk generally like to enjoy a meal here as the food is cheaper than in the bigger towns on the island and the food is very fresh. Fish is usually caught and served on the same day. |
